Bridal Beauty Trends from Award Winning MUA Tamara Tott

Despite working in the beauty industry for the last 10 years, I’m not that confident or experimental with hair and makeup – I’m much better at health and skincare.  For this reason, finding a hair and makeup artist for my wedding was one of the most time consuming and stressful things about the whole wedding.  After many a late night scouring blogs, Instagram, and Google, I came across the award winning makeup artist and hair stylist Tamara Tott.  I loved the mix of classic bridal and high fashion editorials that she had across her websites.  I couldn’t have been happier with my hair and makeup on my wedding day, so I have enlisted her help to bring you this season’s latest and most versatile bridal beauty trends.

So here they are, Tamara’s top bridal beauty trends for this year – with some hints and tips thrown in too:

Make up

Glowing Skin

Clean, perfect, radiant skin is in – in a big way.  Tamara says this works well for ladies with dry to normal skin.  Although the look can still be achieved with oily skin, it requires a special application and the right choice of products (thus a makeup trial is always key).  This look is best created with the help of highlighters.  Tamara’s favourite products to create this look are Mac Strobe Cream and Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow

The No Makeup Look

Gone are the days of a heavy makeup façade.  This look obviously works well for ladies with a perfect complexion or for those who don’t want to wear a lot of make up on their wedding day.  Particularly great if you are having a destination wedding somewhere warm that requires softer makeup.  It does, however, require special application in order to achieve the perfect ‘no makeup’ effect, advises Tamara.

Earthy Tones

Tamara says… ‘all shades of brown, GO!’.  I couldn’t agree more!  Earthy tones are neutral and so suit everyone (in the right shade), and usually add a bit of warmth to the face.  They go well with most make up looks, including ‘glowing skin’ and the ‘no makeup’ look.

Blusher

Add to either of the looks above by adding a soft pastel blusher tint, but keep it natural.  Tamara says the best way to do this is to match your blusher to your lipstick.  Most of the new makeup collections have updated their palettes with fresh pastel blusher colours, but Tamara recommends actually dabbing your lip colour on your cheeks and blending to achieve perfection.  Tamara’s favourite brands to create this look include Dior, Chanel, Givenchy, NARS and Bobbi Brown

Glossy Lips

I loved the matt lip trend last year but I am glad to hear that Tamara says glossy lips are back!  Tamara says use your normal favourite lip colour as usual, but apply lightly as a lip stain and then cover with lip gloss.  This creates a fresh, effortless look – but the lipstick underneath stops it looking too immature.

Hair

Braids

Tamara has seen this trend for the past few years, but says this year it’s stronger than ever.  Depending on your dress and make up look, this can either be in undone braids or sleek and perfect plaits.  Undone and more relaxed, less formal hairstyles are now more on trend, according to Tamara.  I also prefer the more relaxed undone braids, to keep the look more natural.

Textured Waves

Textured waves (as opposed to tight curls) have been winners on quite a few catwalks for SS17 bridal.  This ties in with the natural trend sweeping beauty at the moment.  Tamara recommends using a mousse or a sea salt spray, but do try out a few variations and a few different products in advance to learn what works with your hair type.

Bridal beauty is a tricky one because you want to look your best, you want to stand out and look extra special, but you don’t want to run the risk of trying something completely new.  There may be a danger it won’t suit you, you won’t feel comfortable on the day, or worse, you’ll regret it in your wedding photos.  Take the time to do as many hair and makeup trials as you need to feel happy and comfortable, and don’t be afraid to approach instore makeup counters for advice and freebie trial sizes.

Thank you so much to Tamara for sharing her wisdom!
