Getting Hitched at Chelsea Old Town Hall

Chelsea Old Town Hall is one of the most popular wedding venues in London and it's easy to see why. With its beautiful pastel coloured ceilings, traditional wood panelling and established history as one of the grandest Victorian buildings in central London, what's not to like?

If you're looking for a venue to make an impact on your big day the columned entrance to the hall's marble-floored corridors and neo-classic architecture might just tick all the boxes. The hall is an extremely versatile building, I've seen all sorts of weddings take place there, from traditional big white affairs to stylish DIY parties - not to mention all the famous faces that have been married there. Old Chelsea Town Hall is a magnificent late Victorian building, lovingly restored to its original glory. It provides a beautiful, memorable and photogenic backdrop for weddings and receptions and its central location is perfect for most Londoners too.

Here are a few wedding themes that I think would perfectly suit Chelsea Old Town Hall...

Vintage 1950's

A vintage 1950's theme. The traditional design of the building would naturally suit a vintage style party, the wooden walls combined with the classic details with add real depth to a 1950's theme. The main hall of the building would perfectly suit long trestle tables laden with vintage style centre pieces; think classic roses, peonies and carnations for a vintage look. Add some thrifted candle sticks, tea cups and traditional sugared almonds and you're good to go!

A classic 1950's white cocktail dress with a slash neckline and full tulle skirt is a must if you want to be a vintage bride. Pair your dress with some slingback heels, winged eyeliner and a birdcage veil to complete the look. You can really have fun with all the little touches if you're creating a 1950's vibe, just be careful it's not on the twee side.

Classic White

A classic white wedding is the perfect theme to go for if you love a traditional and timeless look. The Victorian architecture of the main room in Chelsea Town Hall would perfectly complement a classic wedding. White tones match any decor so you're sure to achieve a cohesive look with white garden roses, ivy and baby's breath. Your bouquet and table flowers should be a traditional round shape but if you feel like modernising the theme you could add a few trails of greenery too.

Opt for classic white crockery and formal place settings to match the grandeur of the hall and, of course, lots of white tapered candles. Wear a classic and universally flattering gown like a mermaid or ballgown silhouette and keep your makeup, shoes and accessories simple, this theme is all about natural beauty.

Pastel Party

A feminine pastel party is your chance to have some fun. The pastel coloured walls of the main room and ceremony hall would perfectly suit this theme, you're halfway there already! This wedding theme calls out for some DIY projects, so you could really get creative with your bridesmaids with the decor. Spray paint mason jars with pastel shades to use as vases, tea light holders and even to hold toiletries for the ladies' bathrooms. Speaking of bridesmaids, make use of the mix and match trend and let your maids choose their favourite pastel shades for their dresses.

Instead of a traditional wedding cake why not go for a beautiful selection of pastel coloured macarons? Not only are they delicious sweet treats but they also add in an impressive decorative element too. I also love those oversized confetti balloons, you would only need a few to add a lot of impact. As the room is so vast, I would recommend a cluster around your cake and guest book table. Finally, don't forget the flowers, do your research and pick out whatever pastel coloured blooms are in season. Hydrangeas in violet pastel shades would be perfect!

I hope you liked the three themes I picked out and best of luck with your wedding planning!
