And the award for best wedding inspiration goes to… here’s my edit of the trends:
The Romantic
Left: Priyanka Chopra presented the ‘Best Editing’ Oscar in a stunning and svelte Zuhair Murad gown. The applique detail on this gown is just gorgeous and the metal belt makes it a little more modern. A far cry from her former Miss World alter ego.
Middle: Elizabeth Banks wore a Ralph & Russo caped gown to the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, continuing Chrissy Teigen’s cape trend from The Grammys, but in a very different way. The high neck balances out the barely-there lace, and the look is soft and whimsical.
Right: A pregnant Emily Blunt shone in a bejewelled Prada gown, the cut was perfect for her bump and there was definitely something a bit Juliet Capulet about her look.
The Show Stoppers
Left: Gaga toned it down somewhat this year, but, always the contemporary, she wore what I can only describe as a trouser suit…. Although I feel this is doing it an injustice! The outfit was by Brandon Maxwell, but wouldn’t look out of place hung on a rail with Lily Cole’s Vivienne Westwood.
Right: Lily Cole wore a classic dress by Vivienne Westwood, reminiscent of the one Carrie Bradshaw wore to her (cancelled) wedding at the New York Public Library. Every girl’s dream, perfect for a grand entrance.
Olivia Wilde wowed in a Valentino Haute Couture dress. I love the pleats and the wings, but can’t help feeling this would have looked better on someone with a smaller chest – not one you could wear to church!
Glittering Gatsby
The Vanity Fair Oscars Party was a little glitterier than the award show itself, with both Lily Donaldson (left) and Lily Collins (right) opting for Yves Saint Laurent Couture. Stuck for a wedding theme? Look no further.
