Highlights from Brides The Show – until Sun 4th Oct

Last night my sister and I popped along to the opening of ‘Brides The Show’ in Islington.  I subscribe to the Brides magazine, so the event had been built up in my subconscious for months via their strategic marketing…  I’ve only been to one or two smaller bridal shows before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but Condé Nast didn’t disappoint.  We ended up having a great night which consisted of quite a few freebies, including but not limited to; piña colada ice cream, a 20 min make up trial, a choux pastry lesson, and a few glasses of bubbly.

The suppliers were carefully selected and were concisely spread out, however the exhibition wasn’t too big either.  It was definitely the ‘best bits’ of the vivid imagery splashed on their pages each month, and each supplier really went all out with their stand to grab your attention.  If you get the chance, do try to squeeze in a visit tomorrow before it ends, but try to nab a promo code for tickets online or keep your eyes peeled for discounts via the ads on the tube, as it’s pricey just to go for a look if you’re not seriously taking wedding notes.

Here are a few highlights:

Hayes & Jarvis - Honeymoons
Dubbed as ‘holidays as individual as you’, they were giving away free boozy ice cream to get people into holiday mode!  It definitely worked for me!  They advertised lots of exotic getaways as totally accessible and quite reasonable, and had a their app blown up onto a few TVs that you could take a fun quiz on to find out where your perfect honeymoon destination would be…  I got The Maldives, Mauritius, or Phuket – I’ll take that!

By taking part in the fun app on the night, you were also entered into a prize draw to win a honeymoon up to the value of £2,500!  (Fingers crossed for Mauritius!)

They are also running this separately via their app (click here for a link) where you can win a honeymoon up to £1,000 until 15th November.

Bobbi Brown - Makeup Trial
We had to wait in a short queue but it was worth it.  All the artists were so friendly and professional and didn’t hesitate to top you up with bubbly.  I picked a few tips and tricks, and loved my quickie make up so much I got the girls number for my wedding!  Additionally, you could leave your name to do a proper 1 hour make up trial at your local Bobbi Brown counter – completely complimentary.  Afterwards they had a cute photo booth and comedy makeup props to capture your look to enter into a prize draw.

Maître Choux - Choux Pastry Lesson
Near the beginning there was a large tent filled with very on-trend atmospheric hanging white balloons (think Covent Garden and Victoria Beckham’s fashion week party) where Brides had organised workshops with different suppliers.  Luckily we saw this early so were able to book in for a session later in the evening.  There were various crafting workshops, but we put our names down for the Maître Choux pastry decorating class – with the promise of getting to eat the pastries after!  The lovely French gents from Maître Choux Kensington gave us a little history on pastries and the art, and gave us a live demo of eclair decoration.  Then we had a go ourselves on some previously prepared choux pastries.  Such fun and so delicious!  It definitely made me think twice about my dessert table for my wedding… a little pricey but the flavours we had were to die for!  (Don’t tell my fiancé I put down an order for a £900 choux tower!)
