Davina & Angus - A Devon Beach Elopement

When this real wedding first landed in my inbox I actually thought it was New Zealand or somewhere much further afield than Devon (I always look at the pictures first!) - I'm sure you’ll agree that the photos by Liberty Pearl Photography are absolutely breath-taking.

Davina and Angus had a beautiful beach wedding last October by the coast. Their day took place on Ayrmer Cove, a secluded beach in South Devon. Davina and Angus had experienced so many happy times bbq-ing and swimming in the area that they thought the private cove there would be the perfect spot for their big day. The couple wanted to achieve a relaxed and intimate elopement without the fuss of a traditional big white wedding... keep reading to see how they created their perfect day.

The Wedding

Davina and Angus met in France in 2009 whilst surfing on Vieux Beaucoup beach. They both love the water and since meeting have enjoyed many adventures together enjoying lots of beautiful beaches. Angus proposed at Mothecombe bay whilst they were paddle boarding together by writing “will you marry me?” in the sand of the shoreline of a nearby private beach. (I wish we had a pic for this bit!)

The couple initially planned a large wedding with 150 guests but found planning such a big event stressful. To avoid the expense and fuss, they decided to elope with seven of their closest friends and family - and planned the wedding in 3 days! The elopement meant that Davina and Angus could enjoy the simple and relaxed wedding they’d always dreamed of. And how dreamy it was!

The Theme

The couple always wanted a very relaxed day so they ended up letting the guests dictate the general theme. The groom’s mother created the heart shaped chalk board signage, and natural slate was used as the dinner plates to create an earthy vibe, which matched the natural surroundings perfectly.  All colours and flowers were kept natural and neutral.

The Flowers

Davina adores Gypsophila (baby’s breath) so made sure that was the only flower used throughout the day.  Davina’s bouquet was a relaxed hand tied bunch of Gypsophila which was wrapped in strands of neutral toned ribbons. The button holes were made from hand gathered cornflowers from the local area and Davina’s mother brought some fern from Davina's late grandmother's garden. These little touches ensured that the day felt extremely personal and intimate - and wasn't it beautiful?

The Dress

Davina runs her own swimwear brand called Zennor Bikini, and so, as a designer, Davina already had a clear idea of what she wanted and how she wanted to create it. By working with wedding dress designer Michele Ann May they were able to create a bespoke gown that suited Davina’s free spirited and relaxed nature. Davina wore a gown that featured a sweetheart neckline with floral lace overlay that perfectly complemented her baby’s breath bouquet. Combined with the back detail, the dress had the perfect mix of subtle yet sophisticated details.

Wise Words

We asked Davina, if you could do it all over again, what advice would you give yourself?

“It doesn’t have to be big and expensive, make sure you do what you want to do! It is your day!”

What a gorgeous story, gorgeous pics, and an utterly gorgeous bride and groom!  A cool celebration in a cove, what’s not to love?!

Now, anyone for an escape to sunny South Devon?!
