Zoe & Iain – Idyllic Ibiza Nuptials

To my side of the family, my wedding was a destination wedding since most of our family had to travel from Scotland to London to be with us.  On my hubby’s side however, Zoe and Iain totally trumped us and had the most gorgeous, desirable destination wedding I have ever seen in real life pictures!  Unfortunately, we weren’t able to attend each other’s big days due to travel and wedding commitments (our wedding was late April and theirs was early June this year), but I just could not pass up the chance to blog about this idyllic Ibiza wedding.

Not one to do things by halves, and no stranger to hard work, Zoe organised the wedding between Ibiza, Scotland, and Australia!  In search of sunshine, Zoe and Iain moved from Scotland out to Canberra in Australia a few years ago to continue their careers.  It was there they got engaged, and after a few trips home decided they would hold a relaxed ceremony at a villa in Ibiza.

I can’t give you an inside story since, unfortunately, we weren’t able to be with them on their special day, but from what I’ve heard from family it was an amazing day filled with love, laughter, colour, and an added bonus of a pool party after dark!  The photos certainly speak for themselves!

Dress

Zoe’s dress and belt was from Apple Blossom Time bridal shop in Perth, Scotland.  Her dress was by Spanish designer Jesus Peiro.  She got it a year and a half before the wedding, in between flying back and forth from Australia and Ibiza!  Zoe commended the excellent personalised service from Jolene and Karen many times when we were catching up in the lead up.

“A beautiful boutique, I cannot recommend highly enough!”
- Zoe

Zoe’s shoes were her ‘something blue’ from Badgley Mischka.

Flowers

Zoe ordered her flowers and arbour archway from Floral Dreams Ibiza“Gary and Holly were so helpful and accommodating, especially with my indecisions!”

Zoe’s mum gave her some lace from her wedding dress which they wrapped around her bouquet as her 'something old.'  I absolutely love this idea, such a cute personal touch.

Rings

As Zoe and Iain have been living in Canberra for the past couple of years, they have had access to a huge variety of diamonds and metals; their rings were from the Australian Diamond Company, Melbourne, Australia.

Venue

Zoe and Iain’s venue was Villa Can Jordi which was booked through Dynamic Lives Ibiza.  Both families stayed there for the week which meant everyone was relaxed in their surroundings come the ceremony.

 Catering & Planning

Catering, planning and logistics for the day was taken care of by Fiona Frith.  In Zoe’s words, “Fiona has high standards and ensured everything ran smoothly on the day.”  They had a range of tapas style canapés, then grilled squid or chicken skewers for starters, and then BBQ entrecote of beef or sea bass for main.  The couple opted not to have a cake but had a desert table and a selection of after dinner cocktails instead – yum!

Décor & Details

Zoe’s colours were orange and navy blue which seemed in keeping with their Ibiza surroundings.  As they got married at the height of summer, the colours really suited the day.  The bridesmaids looked classy in navy, and the orange really popped against the white buildings and clear blue sky.

They added a lot of personal touches like a polaroid guest book and cute tartan ribbons on the place settings as a nod to home.

Entertainment

Zoe booked an acoustic vocal guitar duo call ‘Oh La La’ for during their ceremony and canapés, made up of Claire Wakeman and Joelle Vierling.  Claire then played with her band after dinner, who has a fun old school funk style mixed with contemporary and jazz instruments.  A DJ continued the set later on in the evening, and from then on Zoe says it turned into a bit of a pool party!

Favours

Zoe and Iain wanted their favours to be fun and in keeping with their Ibiza vibe, so they had customised sunglasses and flip flop bottle openers bought online.

‘Not a Real Wedding Without a Bit of Drama’

The day seemed too perfect to me, but according to Zoe being on a paradise island had its drawbacks.  A wedding on a remote village in Ibiza, plus high power usage with everyone getting ready for the main event (wedding party, guests and catering included), meant they had a massive power surge in the villa an hour before the ceremony was due to start!  They had no water or electricity the hour before, but this was resolved very quickly and the day went off without a hitch after that – thankfully!  Zoe seemed so calm telling me this, I’m not sure I would have been quite so chilled about it to be honest!  Ibiza must have that effect on people!

“Many thanks to the Dynamic Lives staff for their help with resolving this issue very quickly so it didn't affect our day!  Not a real wedding without a bit of drama…!”
  - Zoe

Thanks to Zoe and Iain for letting me share their wonderful day!  We were so sad we couldn’t make it to celebrate with them.

  1. The secret to a perfect relationship is to keep God in the center of it. You might have heard about it several times. Maybe from a friend or relatives. Well, I will say it again because I think this is the most important thing you should know about marriage. God has been so faithful to your lives. Happiness for both you is all I am wishing for. You are blessed and highly favored. Congratulations on your big day!!
