Ace Hotel Wedding Showcase

I’m always on the lookout for new wedding venues and fairs, and was super excited to see on Instagram a few weeks ago that Knot and Pop were hosting a wedding showcase for the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch - a luxury boutique hotel in the heart of the city.

The night was dubbed ‘A Thoroughly Modern Marriage’, presented by the Ace Hotel with styling help from Knot and Pop. It was a celebration-come-wedding fair, now that the hotel had secured a wedding licence.  Being a local East Londoner, I know and love Knot and Pop’s style and I frequent the Ace hotel regularly for brunches and drinks, so I was super intrigued to see what the hotel would come up with for their wedding venue launch night.  It was a warm (if grey) Friday night, the drinks were flowing, the crowd was Ace-Hotel-cool, and I wasn’t disappointed!

From the uber cool hotel reception area, we were directed up to the seventh floor.  From the lift, we were instantly greeted with a secret garden type array of wild flowers in the hall way, and directed through to the bar and rooftop terrace – which I had no idea even existed.  The whole top floor was taken over by ‘A Thoroughly Modern Marriage’ with four open plan rooms styled in different ways, and the lifts coming right up through the core of the building.

The bar area ran parallel to the outdoor terrace, and had lots of lovely confetti style streamers from Pea Green Boat arranged in a sea across the ceiling.  Contrary to every other wedding event I’ve ever been at, they weren’t stingy with the drinks and canapes and had a few different choices on offer.

En route to our first room, we were encouraged down the hallway with a colourful selection of hand crafted chandeliers from Bobbin and Bow.  Karolina is reviving the traditional polish tradition of Pajaki and makes modern bespoke pieces for celebrations:

The first room had a small yet concise selection of fashion and jewellery, which was carefully handpicked to perfectly compliment the minimalist yet chic style of the Ace Hotel.

Clockwise from top left:

-Delicate, modern jewellery by Laura Lee – all customisable to convey each customer’s unique story.
-A selection of the finest in fashion from The Outnet – featuring a great selection of contemporary designers at discount.
-Some exquisite loungewear by Sundays London – wearable, beautiful and versatile nightwear.
-The prettiest wedding dresses by Halfpenny London – gorgeous vintage inspired dresses, for real women.

The next room was a reception area with helium balloons scattered across the low ceiling (such a simple but cool idea) with Wedding Smashers DJs spinning funk, and a classy handmade photo booth by The Flash Pack in the opposite corner.

We were then ushered into the dining room which had 3 long trestle tables (very on trend) with various place settings and table décor by Knot and Pop and House of Hackney.  Here we were guided through some of the delights from the Ace Hotel’s chefs:

Feeling quite full by this point, we meandered back out to the terrace.  Then we grabbed another drink, and had a breather taking in the views of the city and industrial East London, while listening to The Xavier Quartet play modern pop songs on strings behind us.

I was already sold at this point by the flawless service from the staff, the quality of the food and drink, and the versatility of each space, including the roof terrace, but the cherry on top was the ceremony room itself (title image).  A simple room with breath taking floor to ceiling views over the whole city.  The room was modestly decorated with some wild blooms by That Flower Shop, and a classy asymmetric arbour for the ‘alter’.  You could easily do a lot more with this room décor wise, but the simplicity of it was stunning – I would pay for the views alone.

A brilliant and very different addition to the London wedding scene, super stylish yet unassuming.  I just wish they would have launched this a year ago, as my wedding might have turned out a little bit differently!!
