A Most Curious Wedding Fair

Once you’ve been to one wedding fair, it can feel like you’ve been to them all.  That is, unless, you’ve been to the Most Curious wedding fair!  Originally set up by Becky Hoh-Hale, a former assistant editor of luxury interior design magazine IDFX, following a disheartening experience with finding creative suppliers for her own wedding in 2008.  The website quotes, “Becky remains dedicated to finding the coolest, chicest and perhaps kinda out of the ordinary things for couples to have at their weddings”.  I was sold.  (Although they had me a ‘curious’!)

I was lucky enough to bag some press tickets for the opening night of Most Curious London last weekend, so I dragged my ever willing (and ever patient) sister along last Friday night with the promise of a free cocktail (and a glass of wine afterwards).  The fair was hosted upstairs in The Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane, so the Friday night vibes were good and the venue was big and well suited.  I get a little claustrophobic at events like this, with too many people rammed in too small a space, but the upstairs room was vast and there was plenty of space to take your time over each stall, and take photos. 

The space wasn’t too structured so suppliers could be as creative as they wanted (it's basically a warehouse).  Warm lighting softened the concrete interior, some easy going electro flowed from the back of the room, and we were greeted at the bar with ‘The Bridal Collins’: a whisky, Cointreau, lemonade and orange bitters cocktail.

It was refreshing to see a host of suppliers I had never heard of before, and products and accessories I had never thought of using before – despite my hours pouring over Pinterest and devouring Brides magazine.  It was also great to talk to new suppliers with new ideas and a fresh take on wedding styling, and I was surprised but delighted to find a little army of Scottish suppliers who had made the trip down especially for the show.
