Christmas Wedding Inspiration

Christmas weddings can be so much fun, but they don’t have to be all snow and icicles, or tinsel and mince pies!  There are so many themes to play with, and you can be as subtle or a playful as you want – you won’t be short on avenues to explore.  Wedding venues and suppliers are often much cheaper in winter time, so it’s also a great way to save money whilst not scrimping on all the trimmings.  Likewise, if you got engaged around Christmas time, a December wedding seems like a natural progression.  I’ve put a Christmas wedding mood board together for some inspiration – if I was getting married at Christmas time, this is exactly what I would want my wedding to look like!    

Colour

Colour is an easy way to inject warmth into an otherwise cold theme.  Here, I’ve used a variation of deep blood reds, a forest green, and cool greys.  The cool grey really lifts the reds and greens to make the theme a little more contemporary, whilst still keeping the overall mood warm.  A small sprinkling of tartan adds depth.  The wedding bouquet picks up on the cool greys, but is softened by a few blush pinks. 

Texture

Variations in texture can really transform and elevate your theme – I love texture as its super easy but gives maximum effect.  Tweed has been used for an authentic cosy country feel, which compliments the tartan.  The bouquet adds more interest with a range of more unusual flowers and plants – don’t be afraid to mix and match whatever is in season.  Wood cuttings have been used in different ways, such as a DIY cake stand and small cuttings as hanging decorations that can also be used as favours.  Just be careful if you’re doing wood cuttings yourself in advance of your big day, as some types of trees produce a sap once cut if they’re not used or treated in time – this happened to my sister! 

Details

Pine cones are scattered throughout and help to tie in the country vibe, and really evoke a wintry feel – cute and totally cost effective!  They can be used anywhere from your bouquet to your tables.  A simple candy cane place setting injects a little bit of fun and adds a splash of colour.  Again these needn’t cost the earth, I recently picked up a pack of 12 at Poundland.co.uk!

Drinks

Forget mulled wine and mince pies and do something people will actually take the time to enjoy – this hot chocolate station is bang on trend; just add some rum or Baileys on the side!  Consider lots of toppings and large church candles in buckets for toasted marshmallows.  Candy apples also work well as a treat on the side, using the same toppings as the hot chocolate.
